چکیده

Abstract Background This research aimed at assessing the white matter microstructural (WM) brain changes in tinnitus patients with bilateral normal peripheral hearing using diffuse tensor imaging to test whether, alone without loss can cause WM or not. Patients and materials Twenty-eight were enrolled this research, 14 (audiometrically proven) controls. All subjects underwent a full basic audiological evaluation, matching, asked fill Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) questionnaire. They diffusion imaging, mean diffusivity (MD) fractional anisotropy (FA) values measured special parts of central auditory pathway, limbic system. A comparison between study control groups was held as regards MD FA different sites an independent sample Student t-test Mann–Whitney U test. Furthermore, relationship THI scores MD/FA measures examined by correlation tests. Results As values, some regions [lateral lemniscus (LL), inferior colliculus (IC), frontal arcuate fasciculi (AF) parahippocampus] showed statistically significant decreased group compared Normal Hearing (NH) (p < 0.05). , significantly higher (auditory cortex, amygdala, AF) correlations positive Rt Amygdala (r = 0.55, p 0.04). Conclusions The pathway affection is proved (as least evidenced conventional examinations) auditory-limbic association so far. involvement IC confirms subcortical centres generation tinnitus. Auditory associations are also impacted effect

Evaluation of White Matter Tracts in Autistic Individuals: A Review of Diffusion Tensor Imaging Studies

Introduction: Many cognitive and social deficits in autism are caused by abnormal functional connections between brain networks, which are manifested by impaired integrity of white matter tracts. White matter tracts are like the "highways" of the brain, which allow fast and efficient communication in different areas of the brain. The purpose of this article is to review the results of autism st...

Early microstructural white matter changes in patients with HIV: A diffusion tensor imaging study

BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported white matter (WM) brain alterations in asymptomatic patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). METHODS We compared diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) derived WM fractional anisotropy (FA) between HIV-patients with and without mild macroscopic brain lesions determined using standard magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We furthermore investigated wheth...

Changes in integrity of normal-appearing white matter in patients with moyamoya disease: a diffusion tensor imaging study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE DTI is widely used for the evaluation of white matter integrity in various neurologic diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in white matter integrity by using DTI in NAWM of patients with MMD and to evaluate the correlation between diffusion and perfusion characteristics through an interhemispheric comparison. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospect...

Pathological Assessment of Brain White Matter in Relapsing-Remitting MS Patients using Quantitative Magnetization Transfer Imaging

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by lesions in the white matter (WM) of the central nervous system. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most specific and sensitive method for diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. However, the ability of conventional MRI to show histopathologic heterogeneity of MS lesions is insufficient. Quantitative magnetization transfer imaging (qMTI) is a rel...

Altered microstructure of brain white matter in females with anorexia nervosa: a diffusion tensor imaging study

Objective Structural studies have reported anorexia nervosa (AN) patients with abnormal gray matter in several brain regions and dysfunction in some connected neural circuits. However, the role of white matter (WM) in AN patients has rarely been investigated. The present study aimed to assess alterations in WM microstructure of the entire brain in females with AN using a voxel-based method on d...
